Huskie Happenings - Weekly Superintendent Newsletter

September 22-26

Each week, Mr. Slavik shares a quick recap of what’s happening across Breckenridge Community Schools and a look ahead at upcoming events. Huskie Happenings is your go-to source for staying connected with school news, celebrations, and important reminders. Whether you're a student, parent, staff member, or community supporter, this newsletter keeps everyone in the loop as we grow and learn together. Stay informed. Stay engaged. Stay Huskie Strong!

At Breckenridge Community Schools, we believe that open communication between families, teachers, and school staff is one of the most important parts of student success. When we work together, we create the best opportunities for our students to grow both in and out of the classroom.

We encourage you to connect with your child’s teachers, attend conferences, and get involved in school events. Whether it’s volunteering, participating in community activities, or simply having a conversation with staff, your involvement makes a meaningful difference.

By partnering with us, you help us focus on your child’s strengths and interests while making them feel connected and valued as part of our Huskie community.

Thank you for your continued support—together, we can inspire every student to succeed.

Safe Storage Law Resources

As required by Michigan law (MCL 28.429, MCL 380.1313a, and MCL 380.1313b), Breckenridge Community Schools is providing information to parents and caregivers about the safe storage of firearms.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Education, has developed resources for families, including:

  • What is the Secure Storage Law in Michigan.

  • Safe Storage Notice.

These resources are available to help families understand the importance of secure storage in protecting children and the community.

Academics/Programs

Breckenridge Community Schools will provide the time and resources to collaboratively and continually align PK-12 curriculum.

This week's "Life Lesson Tuesday" in Mrs. Stephen's Ag Leadership class was a huge success!

Our students had the opportunity to learn a valuable skill from Mr. Cannon and Mr. Peters: how to tie a tie! 👔 A big thank you to them for sharing their expertise with us. The students did a great job and are now ready for any formal occasion.

Online Fundraiser Kicks Off! 📚💰

Hello Breckenridge Elementary Families!

Friday, your student brought home a special take-home lanyard with information about our exciting new fundraiser: Reading for Education!

This is a safe and easy way for our school to raise money for essential tools that help our students and teachers succeed.

The best part? It's 100% online! That means: ✅ NO face-to-face selling. ✅ NO handling money. ✅ NO delivering products.

Your participation can take less than 12 minutes, and there are fun prizes for our students!

How to Participate:

  1. Go to the sign-up page: https://www.rfe.net/sid.t?0000291273

  2. Send the simple form emails to invite family, friends, and co-workers to support your child.

  3. Return the Lanyard with the Student Prize Code to school so your child can get their participation prize!

Please ask your child for their lanyard! Your quick support will make a big difference for Breckenridge Elementary School. Thank you!

It's more than just a flickering flame... it's a chemical reaction in action!

Our chemistry students kicked off their lab work today with a classic experiment: observing a candle. Their mission? To become scientific detectives and identify the reactants (what goes in, like wax and oxygen) and the products (what comes out, like light, heat, and invisible gases).

It’s a brilliant, hands-on way to see how chemistry transforms the world around us, one molecule at a time!

🎨✨ On Friday, our Advanced Art students had the opportunity to attend the Frankenmuth Fire Arts Festival! They’ve also been hard at work creating some incredible pieces of their own. 👩‍🎨👨‍🎨

A big thank you to Mrs. Frye for providing these amazing learning opportunities for our students! 💙💛
