Welcome Back, Huskies! Kicking off 2026 with Purpose |
|

Dear Breckenridge Community,
Happy New Year! I hope your winter break was filled with rest and joy. As we welcome our students and staff back to start 2026, there is a renewed energy in our hallways. We are excited to get back in the swing of things and continue the great work we started in the fall.
January serves as a perfect time for a "reset." As we return to our classrooms, our educators are focused on reinforcing classroom expectations, procedures, and routines. Establishing this consistency now ensures that our focus remains exactly where it needs to be: on instruction and student achievement.
We are holding firm to our high expectations for every student. We believe in the power of hard work, deep learning, and growing a little bit more each day. By maintaining high standards, we show our students that we believe in their potential. This dedication connects directly to our daily mission at Breckenridge Community Schools:
To educate, support, and inspire each student to achieve personal excellence and success.
Let’s tackle this semester with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to that excellence. Remember, we are One Team, One Goal, and we ensure Every Student Thrives.
Here’s to a fantastic start to 2026!
Sincerely,
Wade Slavik Superintendent Breckenridge Community Schools

Our BES students brought the ENERGY to Fire Up Chips Country this past Wednesday! 🟡🔴
They had an absolute blast attending the "Hoops for Hunger" game at Central Michigan University. Not only did they get to cheer the CMU Women’s Basketball team on to a big victory, but some of our future stars even took center stage participating in the on-court activities! 🐎🏀
From the pony races to the layups, it was a day full of smiles and school spirit. Way to represent, BES!

We are thrilled to announce that our hydroponics family just got a little bigger! On Tuesday morning, BES students were officially introduced to Barney, our second hydroponics system.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Breckenridge Education Foundation, Barney has joined his best bud, Fred, to help students in both buildings learn how to grow fresh produce year-round. Our students are already learning exactly what plants need to thrive—like sunlight, water, and nutrients—and even established ground rules for taking care of our new equipment.
Get ready for some fresh lettuce, cucumbers, and tomatoes coming soon! 🍅🥒
It looks like Fred and Barney are really rocking the hydroponics game! 🪨

❄️ January Update: Checking in on Student Growth! ❄️ |
|
|
Hello Breckenridge Families!
As we settle into the new year, our students will be participating in their Middle-of-the-Year NWEA testing during January. 📝
Think of this not as a high-pressure exam, but as a helpful "check-in" on their academic journey. These assessments allow us to:
1. Measure the academic growth students have made so far this year. 📈
2. Provide our teachers with valuable insights to tailor instruction and support how your child learns best. 🧠
We witness your children growing, learning, and achieving new things every single day in the classroom. We look forward to seeing that progress reflected in their growth scores!
Let’s finish the school year strong! Go Huskies! 🐾

We want to give a massive THANK YOU to our incredible transportation department. Despite the incredibly challenging conditions, our drivers braved the elements every morning and afternoon to ensure our students were transported safely across the district and to their events.
Your dedication to student safety—no matter the weather—does not go unnoticed. We appreciate you! 💛🚌
