As we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we reaffirm our commitment to making BCS a place where all students can learn and grow. To achieve this, we look to Dr. King’s enduring words as a daily reminder of our shared responsibility:
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
This quote reminds us that a thriving school community requires us to be the "light." By choosing kindness, empathy, and inclusion, we drive out negativity and create a safe harbor for learning.
Let these words guide our actions this week and beyond, ensuring that every student at BCS feels valued, supported, and ready to succeed.

Honoring Service: January is School Board Recognition Month |
As we kick off the second half of the school year, Breckenridge Community Schools is proud to celebrate School Board Recognition Month. While you may see them at meetings or community events, many people are unaware of the nature of their service.
Did you know? Our Board of Education members serve in voted, and currently non-paid positions.
These individuals are elected by the community but dedicate countless unpaid hours to providing the vision, leadership, and guidance necessary to keep our district moving forward. They navigate complex challenges and make critical decisions solely to ensure our students have the best opportunities to succeed. Please join us this month in taking a moment to say "thank you" to our board members for their selfless efforts and dedication to Breckenridge Community Schools.

What a night to be a Huskie! 🐾✨ |
Last Friday was extra special as we celebrated a huge Girls Varsity win against Lakeview AND hosted our youth players for Youth Night! Seeing the next generation of Huskies play at halftime and meet the team for autographs afterward is what it’s all about. 🏀✍️
Let’s keep that momentum going! This Friday, it’s the boys’ turn. Join us as the Boys Varsity team takes on Merrill for their Youth Night. Come out to support our varsity squad and cheer on our youth programs during their halftime spotlight!

Straight as an arrow! 🏹 Our PE students are locked in and learning the basics of archery this week. It’s all about safety, skill, and hitting the mark! 🎯. |
Stepping back in time! 🕰️ |
This week, some of our High School students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Breckenridge Wheeler Area Historical Society Museum. It was a fantastic experience for them to explore our local roots and see firsthand how our community’s story connects to the bigger picture of state and national history. Especially the WWII exhibit.
A huge thank you to the Historical Society for hosting us and helping our history come alive!

❄️ January Update: Checking in on Student Growth! ❄️ |
|
|
Hello Breckenridge Families!
As we settle into the new year, our students will be participating in their Middle-of-the-Year NWEA testing during January. 📝
Think of this not as a high-pressure exam, but as a helpful "check-in" on their academic journey. These assessments allow us to:
1. Measure the academic growth students have made so far this year. 📈
2. Provide our teachers with valuable insights to tailor instruction and support how your child learns best. 🧠
We witness your children growing, learning, and achieving new things every single day in the classroom. We look forward to seeing that progress reflected in their growth scores!
Let’s finish the school year strong! Go Huskies! 🐾

🏆 The Countdown to Districts is ON! 🏆 |
We are officially ONE WEEK away from District Contests, and the Breckenridge FFA chapter is firing on all cylinders. From the shop to the stage, our students have been:
🔨 Building and engineering in the shop.
📜 Practicing scripts and perfecting their delivery.
🗳️ Polishing their Parliamentary Procedure and discussion skills.
We have 26 dedicated competitors heading out next Wednesday to represent our school. Seeing their growth, grit, and teamwork today makes all the prep work 100% worth it.

The Unsung Heroes of the Freeze ❄️ |
While many of us were tucked warm in our beds during this week of bitter cold and snow, our incredible support staff was already hard at work. 🚜🌬️
We want to send a massive THANK YOU to our grounds crew, maintenance team, and custodians. They braved sub-zero temperatures and plowed through heavy snow—often working even when school was officially "closed"—to ensure our buildings were safe, accessible, and warm for our return.
School simply cannot happen without their dedication behind the scenes. We see your hard work, and we appreciate you!
